On February 25, 2016, Gong Chao, Vice President of Agricultural Bank of China Limited (ABC), and his group visited Maluku village primary school. At that time, they were in the Republic of Congo (hereinafter “Congo”) for the opening ceremony for Sino-Congolese Bank for Africa (SCBA) and the ground-breaking ceremony for its office building. The group had a cordial talk with the teachers and students, getting a picture of the school and sparetime life of the students. They also donated a batch of stationery and sports equipment to the school on behalf of ABC and SCBA, including 250 textbooks, 200 bags, 250 exercise books, 100 pieces of stationery, footballs, etc. The teachers and students sang songs to warmly welcome the Chinese guests. Mr. Gong and his group also practiced the traditional Congolese dance with the students, showing their care for the students.
ABC, the substantial shareholder of SCBA, ranks third in the China banking industry and fifth in the world's 100 largest banks. It is engaged in the long-term services to China’s rural areas, agriculture and farmers and the fulfillment of social responsibilities. ABC funds plenty of primary and secondary school education and poverty alleviation projects for farmers, achieving rich rural financial business experience. When attending the opening ceremony for SCBA and the ground-breaking ceremony for its office building, Mr. Gong heard from Zhang Jianyu, General Manager of SCBA, about the situation of Maluku village primary school, and decided to visit there with urgently needed school supplies.
SCBA is an integrated commercial bank, aimed to provide comprehensive financial services to enterprises and individuals in Congo. It is registered in Congo with the total capital of 53.3 billion African francs and jointly invested and established by ABC, Congolese government and other shareholders. On February 26, a ceremony was held in Brazzaville for the opening of SCBA and the ground-breaking of its office building. Mr. Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of Congo, attended the ceremony and laid the foundation stone of the office building.
Maluku Taishe is a small village with around 1,000 villagers, 80 kilometers from Brazzaville. The village has a primary school and a junior high school with 270 and 180 students respectively, adding up to 450 students. But the long-term lack of school supplies (such as textbooks and stationary) and the primitive conditions of school buildings have affected the normal teaching activities. This joint donation by ABC and SCBA to Maluku primary school shows that the two sides have ardent expectations and good wishes for the school and concrete support for Congolese education, reflecting deep friendship between the China-Congo peoples.
